The Keybrid Carabiner Key: so simple, yet so practical

After a full day of Apple news, having a little break with a simple, ingenious product is rather refreshing. We’re not saying that Apple’s new products are super complex or anything, but compared to something like the Carabiner Key, they take a little more thought. Though there’s nothing too techy about the Carabiner Key, we thought it was such a good idea that we had to share it with you.

Trying to get a new key onto a key ring isn’t the hardest thing to do in the world, but it can definitely be a little annoying. To make things easier, Scott Amron created the Carabiner Key which fuses a key with a carabiner.

If you’re unfamiliar with what a carabiner is, it’s a metal loop with a spring gate that’s used often in rope-intensive activities like rock climbing, sailing, and construction. Since they’re so easy to open, tough, and are very good at staying closed once you take your finger off the spring gate, which is why many people use carabiners as a keychain.

Amron developed the Keybrid Carabiner Key so that your key can link independently to keyrings, keychains, belt loops, and shoelaces. The key comes uncut, so you just have to take it to your local hardware store to have it fitted to the right key shape to match your lock.

We have yet to try the key out ourselves, so we can’t attest to how safe it is. It’s always possible to nudge the spring gate and have a key fall off, so take that into consideration. However, it’s a pretty neat invention that makes us wonder why it hadn’t been created sooner.
