iOS 4.3.4 jailbroken within hours of release, keeps the streak going

Despite the rumors that the exploitable holes had been plugged, the iOS 4.3.4 update has been jailbroken just as quickly as earlier versions. The only catch this time around is that, for now, the process is limited to the old tried-and-true tethered method.

Using PwnageTool, users can jailbreak any iPod, iPad, or iPhone capable of installing the update. Luckily for iEnthusiasts, the jailbreak leaves each devices baseband intactso they can return to further unlock them later on using Ultrasn0w.

Its important to note that theres still no baseband unlock for iOS 4.3.4. So, dont update yet if you have a fully unlocked device that you want to keep that way. Otherwise, iPhone-toting T-Mobile customers could find themselves phoneless very quickly.

Now, tethered old-school jailbreaking may not have the luster (or convenience) of the new untethered method provided by JailbreakMe, but it will give iPhoners the chance to keep using all the goodies the Cydia store has to offer while still staying up to date. Unfortunately, it also means that the jailbroken device will need to be charged at all times, since it loses the jailbreak as soon as its power-cycled.

Because the tethered method involves a moderate amount of time to be spent, a cord, a separate computer, and terminal usage, repeating the process every time your iPhone reboots might not seem worth the trouble. At least, not with iOS 5.0 expected to release so soon. Even with the extensive set of instructions provided by the folks at by Redmond Pie, iOS users who arent comfortable with the process may want to sit this one out.
